Periodontal Therapy

One of our doctors and hygienists will screen you for periodontal disease at your first hygiene visit. Periodontal disease is a progressed form of gingivitis in which the gums and bone pull away from the teeth and form pockets. These pockets harbor bacteria and plaque below the gumline, which turns into calculus, or “tartar”, over time. This chronic condition leads to bone loss and can even lead to mobile and sensitive teeth. Treatment of periodontal disease ranges from scaling and root planing, or “deep cleaning”, to antibiotic regimens, to surgical therapy. While we treat most cases in our office, if your case is severe we will refer you to a Periodontist for more advanced treatment.
